Emirates Motor Company’s Drive For Charity Raises 73,720 AEDJan 24, 2017
Emirates Motor Company’s (EMC) ‘Drive For Charity’ initiative raised an incredible 73,720 AED for a local charity thanks to the driving skills of two of the world’s best golfers.
The automotive sponsor of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship pledged 10AED for every yard that the two Mercedes Benz ambassadors, Rickie Fowler and Marcel Siem, drove on the par5 2nd & 8th holes during the spectacular four day golf tournament, with the money being donated to the Special Care Center of Abu Dhabi.
The two players reached a colossal 3,686 yards from the designated tees resulting in a donation of 36,860AED by EMC. The amount was then doubled by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, bringing the total to a life-changing 73,720AED
Children and staff from the Special Care Center of Abu Dhabi attended a special ceremony on the 18th hole last night (22nd) where they were presented with a cheque by His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Ramez Youssef, the Head of Marketing and Communications at Al Fahim Group.
Rickie Fowler, who won the tournament in 2016, commented: “The Drive For Charity is a great idea and obviously anything that helps raise money for such a worthy cause is fantastic. I'm just glad I hit a few good ones off the designated tees to increase the donation amount."
EMC is the authorised distributor of Mercedes-Benz and flagship company of Al Fahim Group.
Ramez Youssef, the Head of Marketing and Communications at Al Fahim Group, said: “With 2017 being the ‘Year of Giving’ in the UAE, and ‘Humanity’ being one of Al Fahim Group’s core values, we thought it was important that this was reflected at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as it is such a renowned tournament in the city and across the world.
“This is the second year we have run the initiative and pledged the money to the Special Care Center’s new premises being built in Al Bahia under their nationwide Donate A Brick Campaign. It is a fantastic organisation and one we are truly proud to support. We managed to raise 66,976 last year, so we’re absolutely delighted to have beaten that total.”
EMC introduced the hugely successful ‘Drive For Charity’ CSR campaign at last year’s tournament, and with 2017 being such a special year for charity initiatives the Abu Dhabi Sports Council were eager to be involved.
His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC said: “In line with the United Arab Emirates' Year of Giving, we are intent on helping those within our community through the Abu Dhabi Sports Council event portfolio. Matching the incredibly generous donation to the Special Care Center by our friends at EMC, is a first step towards delivering on our intention.”
Established in 1989, the Special Care Center Abu Dhabi is a non-profit school for children with disabilities providing academic and therapeutic services in an atmosphere conducive to the development of self-esteem and emotional well-being of every child.
Reem Al Fahim, Vice Chairperson of the Special Care Center Abu Dhabi, said: “We are grateful to EMC and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council for their generous donation and continued support.
“We are indebted to the UAE leadership for establishing the Year of Giving and everything it represents. We do hope that more organizations and community members choose to support Special Care Centre bringing the eight year fundraising campaign to build the new school to an end, allowing the hundreds of students with disabilities on the waiting list an opportunity for appropriate services..”
